Red. White. and Orange.

Happy 4th of July 2012 everyone! Hope everyone is having an awesome independence day full of family, fun, friends, white wine, barbeques, and THANKFULLNESS. You get my drift 😛 LOL. I just wanted to take the time out and say how blessed I am to live in this country. We all go through the day to day grind of work and life and sometimes forget what an amazing nation we live in of FREEDOM and individual rights.

I wanted to share with you my chic outfit (that’s SO not red, white, and BLUE) of what I wore during America’s birthday. My uncle stopped in town for the day so we went to the local military base and went SHOPPINGGGG YESSSS 😀 *um can we say no taxes?* followed by a bite to eat at Cheddars, our first time there, and of course the day trip would not be complete without TJMAXX. <<More haulage from ya girl maxxinista to come!

But anyways BACK to my quick outfit of the day!!

buttoned stripe top: H&M
orange t-shirt: J Crew
bow belt: H&M
grey denim shorts: Hco
purse: Chanel from China
shoes (closed toe b/c I did not get a pedi yesterday): MaxxStudio
arm candy: Jcrew rope, Ross black stones, TJMAXX rose gold magneto
hair: professionally dyed red ombre with caramel highlights! <<Also a video on that to come 🙂

Can you guess which piece cost the most??

Pollyanna side twist into a braided low chignon

Dare I say orange is slowly growing on me?!?!

Waiting for the train…or an antique bike..or a dapper air pilot to sweep me off my feet.

Super easy to create in less than 30 seconds!

Style Strategy book review & thoughts

golden front cover & author

The Style Strategy is a small, yet elegant, fashion help book designed to give some direction and organization on one’s wardrobe. Nina Garcia, infamously famed Project Runway judge, writes her strategy on selecting personal style without breaking the bank (well, not too much). The above picture is Ms. Garcia, Jennifer Aniston look-a-like and all, in one of her many, solidly-chic plain sheath dresses.

On PR the show portrays her as an un-reachable, devil-ish figure with lavish and exquisite taste. And while this may be true of the runway judge, Nina relates to the fashionably-challenged public in a short and witty manner commentating on fashion 101 throughout the ages. (For some reason I noticed lots of Civil War/ WWI/ WWII mentionables in there lol).

But I found myself pushing through fashion rules that I already knew prior to being a fashion student, because her interpretation on dressing well this day and age was refreshing. She wants to bring out the best and brightest, most creative, YOU! Instead of dictating what to wear to various occasions, she states updated ways on how to transform the classics…much like she does living in the dog eat dog world of Manhattan.

The book is well orgaized planning out three distinct sections:

I. What you have
II. What you need
III. What you want

Each chapter is broken down into further detail of course and there was never a dull moment. Between the high fashion illustrations by Ruben Toledo and inserts from Tim Gunn I found myself turning pages, eager to finish the book. Now, I’m not saying this is the best fashion masterpiece but for $3.99 at TJMaxx you can’t get a better deal on styling tips than that. The glossary provides listings of the best vintage shops in major metropolitan cities and websites worth perusing your fashionable buck! From one bargain shopper to another, I’d say that’s money well spent on an investment coffee table book.

Graduation Outfit #2

If you read my last blog post on what to wear to a graduation as an attendee you’re in for a treat! Tonight I wanted to comment on a cute and classic look fit for any graduate no matter the age level. Let’s start from the top.

For the hair I wanted to keep it simple and I love a beehive hair style because not only does it give you height, it’s elegant and so 1950s! Just be careful putting on and off your cap :p

I chose a sophisticated color combination that is timeless and age appropriate for all! A strapless, black and white gingham printed dress with a black sash keeps the focus on YOU!

The accessories is the fun part. I’ve always dreamt what it would feel like to wear Chanel jewelry and doubling up cascading Chanel pearls with the iconic C’s is a grand statement! All eyes are on you so why not LOOK the part?

Betsey Johnson makes darling accessories and my faves of hers are the rings! You can find both of these statement rings at Macy’s. Not only do the colors compliment each other but they’re in the same leopard family!

Lastly the shoes. I stumbled across these Pour La Victoire sideways stacked heel in a neutral color. So from the front it looks like any adorable peeptoe but turn sideways and you’ll be getting looks like you were Lady Gaga. I can’t get over how different and unexpected these shoes are combined with the overall style! Thoughts?

conGRADS! You did it 🙂
